Lucario (Japanese: ルカリオ Rukario) is a Fighting/Steel-type Pokémon from the Pokémon series. It's from the 4th Generation Pokémon games; Diamond, Pearl and Platinum versions, and is the evolved form of Riolu. It is appropriately classified in the Pokedex as an Aura Pokémon in these games. It is said to evolve from Riolu with happiness during the day. Its first role is in the eighth Pokémon movie, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.

Lucario appeared as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He shares similar moves to that of Mewtwo from Super Smash Bros. Melee. He uses his many Aura attacks and has the ability to stick to walls. Lucario has a special ability no other character in Brawl has - the more damaged Lucario is, the more damage and knockback all his attacks cause. It reaches full power at 182% damage. A move that normally does 15% damage raises to 26% damage when it is at 182%, and knocks the opponent back about twice as far as normal. Of course, not all of Lucario's moves are aura-based attacks; the dash attack and backward throw do not involve Lucario's aura.

Lucario was used to be an event Pokémon in Pokémon Purple Version, where he fights the player a challenge in Aura Island.

Lucario is a bipedal canid Pokémon that's around four feet in height. Lucario's forepaws are black and have one white spike on each arm on the upper-side of his wrists. In addition, there's a third spike on Lucario's chest. Lucario's snout and ears have also grown longer since its evolution from Riolu. Lucario also has a furry yellow torso, and its thighs are in the shape of what looks like blue shorts. Also, Lucario stands on the balls of its feet, rather than on his entire foot.

Special abilityEdit

Lucario is sensitive to a special type of energy called aura. Lucario can study these waves to predict the movements of his opponents, and use them to track anyone. He can also guide the waves offensively to create explosive balls of aura energy (such as Aura Sphere, one of only two non-legendaries to learn that move). Lucario is also able to understand human speech; some people say that Lucario can also speak it, though only one Lucario has reportedly done so, and through telepathy.

Codec information (on Shadow Moses Island)Edit

  • Mei Ling: "You're fighting Lucario, aren't you, Snake?"
  • Solid Snake: "Mei Ling, what's that purple fire coming out of his hands??"
  • Mei Ling: "That's his 'Aura.'"
  • Solid Snake: "Aura?"
  • Mei Ling: "I guess you could call it his life force. Lucario can use his own Aura and turn it into power. Every time Lucario's damage increases, his Aura gains strength, making his attacks more powerful. So don't think you've got him beat just because his health is down."
  • Solid Snake: "The cornered rat will bite the cat... Sounds like trouble."
  • Mei Ling: "Hey! When did you become so good with proverbs?!"
  • Solid Snake: "You must have rubbed off on me."
  • Mei Ling: "Well, come back in one piece, and I'll teach you all the Chinese proverbs you can handle."

Appearances in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue TeamEdit

Lucario is seen as the greatest rescue leader of all time, and his adventures have become legendary. While the player never meets Lucario, Alakazam tells the player that his goal is to become closer to Lucario's greatness. Earning 15,000 Rescue Points will put the player in the top rank - the Lucario rank - at which point the Lucario statue will be displayed outside the rescue base. As Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue team were released before Generation IV, Lucario may or may not have been one of the first Genertion IV Pokemon designed.

In comicsEdit

Lucario is starred in the Super Smash Bros. comic. In one volume, Mario and Luigi helped Lucario to overcome the fear of Tabuu.

A Lucario made of gold, known as the Golden Lucario, appeared in Super Mario: The Masters of Black and White. He helped Mario and Luigi find the keys for the jail cell that held Peach and the rest of the Power Fighters.

In the AnimeEdit

A Lucario is featured in the Super Smash Bros. anime as the proud member of the Power Fighters Justice.

Golden Lucario and Aqua Mew made appearances in the second opening to the Super Smash Bros. anime series.
